After several hot days, the cool mountain breezes took over and the cover felt good. Former U. S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark, who faces possible prosecution for traveling to Iran in defiance of a presidental ban, urged the United States to appologize for its action there. Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger was treated at New York Hospital several hours after he suffered head injuries when he fell off a platform at a St. Louis speaking engagement. The accident occurred at a St. Louis hotel, where he was waiting to address the Illinois Bankers Association. As he sat down, one leg of his chair slipped off the back of the stage and he fell backwards about two feet to the floor. C. 28782 WTYN Celebrates 26th Birthday 1980 marks the 26th year WTYN Radio has been serving the Polk County and upper Spartanburg County areas. In October, 1954, WTYN began broadcasting from a small building situated on Highway 176 near the state line. Changes were made in 1956, when Henry G. Bartol and Graves Taylor purchased WTYN from the original owners. Mrs. William Carver was asked to join the staff, and began keeping the books for the station that same year. Mrs. Carver, who will be retiring this month after 24 years of dedicated service to the station, came to Tryon from Chicago. Ill and is a native of Finlay. Ohio Over the years, Mrs. Carver has taken a great deal of responsibility with respect to station operation as Office Manager and Traffic Director In 1958. Mr. Bartol and Mrs. Graves Taylor recruited H. L. (Ace) Rickenbacker from WSPA Radio in Spartnaburg. upon the death of Mr Taylor Ace was a well-known radio personality in Spartanburg County and was with WORD radio in Spartanburg in the early 1940’s. Ace. who has served as program director at WTYN for 22 years, was recenly promoted to Vice-President of the Polk County Broadcasting Cor poration by K. C. Smart and Thomas C. Simpson, owners of WTYN Radio and Officers of the Continued On Back Page TUESDAY, JUNE 10, 1980 A New Arrival Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy “Ham- bone" Camp of Landrum are parents of a daughter born Monday, June 9 at Mary Black Hospital in Spartanburg. The baby weighed 6 lbs 6 oz. Maternal grandparents are Mrs. Jim Helms of Landrum and James Brown of Greenville. Paternal grandmother is Mrs. Ella Mae Childers of Landrum. Maternal great-grandmother is Mrs. Mary Brown of Saluda. Tryon Lions Meet Tonight The Tryon Lions Club will meet tonight at 7:30 at the Pacolet River Plantation to install the new officers. Sain, 36, proprietor of Doc’s Lounge on Trade Street in Tryon, was shot to death Friday about 6:15 p.m. in his establishment. His wife, Evelyn Beacock Sain, also 36, has been charged with first degree murder in the shooting and is in the Polk County jail. She goes before District Court Judge Hollis Owens Wednesday to have a hearing on setting her bond. The shooting incident took place in the bar (formerly known as Sam’s No. 1) and was witnessed by approximately 20 persons. He was shot by a pistol in the chest.
